Setting the Stage for KC Chiefs Draft Fest
5′ foam-core letters allow fans to become part of the team
To add to its tailgating experience, the Kansas City Chiefs organization wanted mobile letters showcasing its team logo that would allow fans a fun photo opportunity at events. Known for large promotional lettering projects in the Kansas City area, Midtown Signs was called upon for its expertise.
“We have done many large foam letter jobs with Benchmark,” said Dennis Baughman of Midtown Signs. “They have always been great at working with our ideas and suggesting how to handle it.”
The finished letters sit roughly 24’ wide x 5’ tall x 2’ deep and act as great fan engagement piece. To ensure the lifespan of the foam-core letters, they are sprayed with a polyurea hardcoat that gives it the durability needed for multiple appearances. The letters were painted and covered with a clear coat to help withstand the elements.
The Chiefs debuted the oversized letters at its Draft Fest at Arrowhead Stadium, a celebration after the NFL Draft. The plan is to also display the letters at future Chiefs home games for more fan interaction. The “I” is intentionally its own piece so it can be moved back to allow fans to stand in its place and become part of the letters.
Large dimensional letters are becoming more prevalent at many events. Much to fans’ delight, the NFL, and sports in general are no exception. Using expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam-core, coated with a durable polyurea hardcoat, gives users the option for repeat use and easy mobility.
