Last year, Signs By Benchmark, a division of Benchmark Foam, created community signage for Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Enjoying the sign and its elegant presence, city officials wasted no time again specifying Signs By Benchmark when it came to ordering new signage for the local community center and school district building.

Working with Stein Sign Display, Inc. of Watertown, South Dakota, Signs By Benchmark went to work on designing the perfect sign that would not only complement the existing structure, but would actually match the very brick and stucco of the building.

The first step in the process was to obtain high quality photos of the building elements. This was done by holding matching paint chips to the brick and stucco under good lighting conditions. Signs By Benchmark designers used the photos, along with brick and grout measurements, to create a precise faux brick finish for the sign base and stucco for the body.

The double-sided 11′ 1/2″ wide x 10′ 1/4″ high x 42 1/2″ deep custom monument sign displays lettering advertising the community center on one side and the school district on the other. Two Daktronics electronic message centers (EMCs) provide the community with timely, pertinent information. (The EMCs were manufactured by Daktronics at its plant just blocks away from the sign installation site.)

“It’s a very pleasing sign and the installation was very satisfactory,” said Jeremy Van Zee of Stein Signs. “Signs By Benchmark has created the perfect solution for installing integrated signage. The sign just slips down over the EMCs, cutting two to three hours off installation. And later, the EMC units can be replaced without damaging the sign. That’s because all the components come apart, allowing access to the EMCs.”
